Why the name, "Avenue" Church?

When we set out to launch a new church in Needham, we didn’t want a flashy or trendy name. We wanted something meaningful to the community that also reflected the character of Jesus.

Needham has five major avenues: Great Plain Ave, Highland Ave, Central Ave,  Dedham Ave, and Greendale Ave. These avenues link Needham to the surrounding towns of Wellesley, Newton, Dedham and Dover. Highland Ave also connects Needham Town Center to Needham Heights. Historically, the Western Suburbs of Boston had towns split off to form new, insular communities. Yet, despite human divisions, these avenues continue to connect them.

An avenue is "a way of arriving at your destination," and Jesus declared Himself the ultimate and only way to the Father. Avenue Church exists to connect the Western Suburbs of Boston to the gospel (good news) of Jesus—starting in Needham and expanding into the five surrounding towns, which is home to nearly a quarter million people.
